The Taycan was first introduced in 2019, It is a four-door saloon sports car that is Porsches first all-electric car. It has many models across the all-electric range, but the entry level is just called the Taycan.
Electric motor, drive and performance
The Taycan has been built to be a high-performance car. The four-door coupe weighs 2.2 tonnes with it driving brilliantly. There is an adjustable suspension on every model, and when you take the suspension out of its more extreme settings, the ride is remarkably supple. The Taycan feels even more playful if you choose Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC). This does cost around £2,300 extra. All models are fitted with the standard fit, air suspension.
The 4S is one of the more convincing Taycan’s you can buy. In addition to 523bhp and 640Nm of torque on the 79.2kWh model, the 93.4kWh Performance Battery Plus model is the real star. This is the same battery you’ll find in the Turbo and Turbo S, but they deliver 563bhp and 650nm of torque. Thanks to two electric motors (one on each axle) and two gears on the rear motor. The Taycan has a deftness that a large, heavy, and four-wheel-drive car has no right to. You even get four driving models: Normal, Sport, Sport+ and Range. Sport mode feels more natural and enjoyable than Sport+, which is a bit hardcore for the road.
Taycan’s entry model hits 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds, while its 4S model’s performance is a bit more spirited: with launch control, it sprints from 0-62mph in 4.0 seconds. Top speed reaches 155mph. The Turbo completes 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds with a top speed of 161mph. The Turbo S top speed is 162mph and 0-62mph in a staggering 2.8 seconds.
Charging and running costs
The Taycan has a large battery pack meaning it can travel up to 300 miles in a single charge. It can charge up to 80% in just 20 minutes. Taycan buyers can benefit from free access to the Ionity charging network for three years, while Porsche Centres offer Turbo Charging, which enables them to add 60 miles of range in around 4.5 minutes.
Leg room, head room & passenger space
The Taycan is 4,963mm and 2,144mm wide, including the door mirrors. The Taycan is a 5-seater and you can seat four adults in comfort, with the driver and front passenger enjoying the best experience. In the back, there is less headroom due to the sloping roofline, tall adults might not have enough space for their feet under the front seats. The middle seat is suitable only for small children and occasional usage.
