BMW X1

The BMW X1 first was launched in 2009 and quickly became the one of the leading compact SUV’s. The X1 has two generations with the first generation being from 2009 – 2015 with the second generation being from 2015 – today. The first generation has a larger engine with 2.0 – 3.0 litre engines and having 116 – 306 horsepower to the second generations 1.5 – 2.0 litre engines and 136 – 231 horsepower.

All X1’s have four wheel drive apart from the sDrive18d which does have front wheel drive. All BMW X1’s are well equipped on features of the vehicle. There are 17-inch alloy wheels, an electric tailgate, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, DAB radio, rear parking sensors, and automatic wipers and headlights on SE models. For the second generation X1 a new range of turbocharged diesel or petrol engines which can provide both efficiency and sportiness. BMW X1 plug-in hybrids have been available since March 2020.

BMW X2

The BMW X2 arrived in 2018 being a sporty/SUV crossover. The X2 has filled a small gap between the X1 and X3. The X2 has a range of engines, there are petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrids available, as well as BMW’s xDrive four-wheel drive system. A diesel engine is no longer available in the X2, leaving two 2.0-litre petrol engines, badged 18i and 20i, delivering 134bhp and 176bhp, respectively. It competes with the Volvo XC40 and Jaguar E-Pace, as well as the top-spec Volkswagen T-Roc and MINI Countryman, plus the ageing Audi Q3 and Mercedes GLA.

BMW X3

As one of the first compact premium SUVs, the BMW X3 set a new standard for compact SUVs. The X3 has three different generations. They first generation was produced back in 2003 and stopped production in 2010. It has engines of 2.0 and 3.0 litres with the horsepower ranging from 143 to 286. This is the vehicle where the BMW xDrive all-wheel drive was first launched, enabling continuous variable power distribution between the front and rear axles. The second generation was a complete redesign of the vehicle which was in 2010.

The engine size was not changed and still is 2.0-3.0 litres but the horsepower has been increased with it now being up to 313 horsepower.  The third generation was launched in 2017 and is still getting produced now. Even though the vehicle has slightly larger dimensions, its weight has been reduced significantly which then would benefit the agility. The X3 also does have the xDrive (all-wheeled drive).

BMW X4 

A midsize SUV coupe was introduced by BMW in 2014, this is the BMW X4. BMW’s own terminology for the X4 is a ‘sport activity vehicle’, Driving enjoyment is more important than practical considerations with this SUV. Its engine size is 2.0 – 3.0 litres with the horsepower being 184-306. Due to its wide range of efficient and powerful engines, the BMW X4 is capable of performing agile and dynamically in any situation. From 2018 the second generation of the X4 arrived, the sporty elegance is made more evident in this generation. Sturdy wheelhouses and a wide track combined with the coupe like roofline shows the typical characteristics of an X model, power and sportiness.

BMW X5

The BMW X5 has four generations. The original X5 first came about in 1999, this SUV helped set the standard for four-wheel-drive SUVs with a chassis that is designed for enjoyment as much as anything else. The engines range from 2.0 Litres to 4.8 Litres vehicles with the horsepower ranging from 184 – 462. Only one body style is available, a boxy five-door that maximises utility.

The X5 sits in BMW’s SUV line-up between the smaller X3 and larger X7. Audi Q7, Mercedes GLE, Porsche Cayenne, Range Rover Sport and Volvo XC90 are among its luxury rivals. The latest models include four engine options, 2 diesels, a petrol and a plug-in hybrid which all offer an eight speed automatic gearbox and the xDrive system. BMW X6

The BMW X6 is a competitive SUV, Its driving characteristics and equipment are among the best in its class, and it offers good performance. The first generation came in 2008 and combined the best qualities for both a coupe and SUV. There are three generations of the BMW X6 with the second generation being from 2014 – 2019 and the third generation being from 2019 – present. The engine ranged from 2.0 litres engines to 4.4 litre engines. There are inline six and V8 engines, as well as eight-speed gearboxes and xDrive all-wheel drive as standard. Regardless of which power unit you choose, you can expect both performance and refinement.

BMW X7

In terms of size, luxury and technology, the BMW X7 is the company’s flagship vehicle, a range of powerful engines are offered and while it’s not the cheapest to run. A big seven-seater, the X7 competes with the Land Rover Discovery, the Audi Q7, and the Volvo XC90. The X7 is currently in it’s first generation and was first produced in 2019 and is still getting produced now. It has a 3.0-liter straight-six engine produces 376 horsepower and a 3.0-liter oil burner produces 347 horsepower.
